Gay Pride Summer Part II

File:Gay flag.svgYou may remember (or not, it's been a long year...) that some months back, we wrote a post about pride events happening over the summer. We couldn't feature all of them, but now might be a good opportunity to offer a part II.

 The events that we've chosen to feature have been picked randomly, but we've listed others, too, below.  

 For events that kick-off after August, we'll
do a later post. You lucky, lucky things.

First up, NEWCASTLE PRIDE kicks off on Friday July 18th. They have a weekend of music and events including: Shayne Ward, Vengaboys and Sinitta. For those who like their fun with a calorie burn, there's a 5KM fun run, too. You can find out more here

On Sunday 20th July, it's BRIGHTON DOGGY PRIDE. This poochy pride celebrates dogs and their owners and is run in association with Coastway Veterinary Group and The Dog's Trust. Crufts it might not be, but there will be classes, refreshments and opportunities to spoil your dog with a range of retailers. More details here

Saturday 9th August is SWINDON PRIDE which is held in the Town Gardens. It's a day long affair with live music and events until 10.30pm when the after-party will start on Queen Street. Want to know more? Find out here

Taking place over the bank holiday weekend is CORNWALL PRIDE on Saturday 23rd August. The theme for this year is (very apt) love and marriage. Parades, parties and musical acts will turn Truro into a rainbow town with the entertainment continuing right through until midnight. For more details, click here

Who Walks Down the Aisle at a Gay Wedding?

Wedding traditions remain an important component of many gay and most straight wedding ceremonies. So who walks down the aisle at a gay wedding?   The short answer?  Whoever you want. What you choose to do and celebrate within your own wedding should be entirely up to you and your partner. Wedding Fair or Wedding Fayre: Which is it?

Fair or fayre? We got busted by a simple Google search.  And we owe you an apology. After writing hundreds of posts promoting wedding open days , showcases and exhibitions , we assumed that we had wedding terminology down-pat. It turns out that we didn’t. Gay Wedding Hashtags

Creating a wedding hashtag for a ceremony and reception isn’t every couple’s cup of tea but is it really so ridiculous when most of us use social media to document and organise our lives anyway.  Gay wedding hashtags are one example of how same-sex couples are creating new traditions.  Planning a wedding when you’re LGBTQ often means navigating heterosexual customs and gender-based norms.  This is one way that couples (gay or otherwise) can embrace modernity and add a bit of fun to their ceremony and reception. The Guest book is hardly the highlight of the wedding reception. There's the pressure of writing something thoughtful, something touching, lightly humorous or insightful in the space of a couple of minutes and all  without the luxury of a first draft.  Unless you're some kind of ad hoc Shakespeare , then it's hardly ideal. Tuesday (March 27th, 2018) was World Theatre Day , and we thought what better way to celebrate than with some love quotes from William Shakespeare’s plays. Poems and readings make great additions to a wedding but there’s also room to include some romantic Shakespearean quotes on your invitations, on your personalised wedding website or even as table centrepieces at your wedding breakfast or reception.
