Columbia and The Faroe Islands Legalise Gay Marriage

It’s always the way, isn’t it?

While we were out of the office for the bank holiday weekend (and the UK Blog Awards), Columbia and The Faroe Islands legalised same-sex marriage.

In Columbia, the Constitutional Court made the ruling in favour.

The country is the fourth in Latin America to legalise gay marriage.

Presiding Judge Maria Victoria Calle told the court and AFP:

With its long history of conservatism and Catholicism, Columbia is a rare champion for LGBT rights

Victory in the Constitutional Court has been welcomed and celebrated both by LGBT campaigners in Columbia and abroad.

And we can't wait to see the first weddings later this year.

Faroe Islands

Elsewhere, the Faroe Islands have become the last Nordic country to legalise same-sex marriage.

The Parliament voted 19 to 14 in favour.

The Faroe Islands is an autonomous country in the Kingdom of Denmark.

When Denmark legalised same-sex marriage back in 2012, the law wasn’t extended to the Islands.

In 2014, Pink News reported that 61% of Islanders were in favour of it.

Huge congratulations to both to the Faroe Islands and Columbia!
